But until that phone call comes, we are preparing as if they are arriving tomorrow. We will have S, a four year old girl who will be five in August and B - a one year old boy. I don't know when he'll be two, but I'm guessing around October.
Our preparations have included:
- Clearing out the storage room upstairs. This is supposed to be our guest bedroom, but since we hardly have someone stay over it became kid storage - all the toys and extra diapers and such that weren't currently being used. Most of it went into a storage area we have in our crawl space attic.
- Take down double bed from
storage roomnew bedroom and set up twin bed. I realize that S might be a little young for the twin, but it should still be fine. And this way if she is with us for a while, we won't have to switch beds later. - Set up old tiny crib for J to sleep in. Currently he's in the regular sized crib, but since B is older, we'll switch J back down and give B his bed. The tiny crib is the size of a portable crib or one that they sometimes use at daycare. It was free and we like that! And it gives more room in the nursery for two cribs, two dressers, rocking chair and a bookcase thing.
- Clean off the stairs. Yes, we should keep our stairs clear... but when the upstairs is not occupied, we keep a door at the bottom of the stairway. Thus, following the principle of out of sight, out of mind and pure laziness for not wanting to take the item all the way up the stairs to put it away... one side of the stairs was quite cluttered.
- Tear out more of the carpet. You know how when you suddenly have something big to prepare for and the first thing that comes to mind is that you should get that old project done that you've put off for so long... how it suddenly seems so necessary. Yeah, that's what happened with the carpet. A sudden urge to get the last bit in the hallway taken out before have two more kids around to make it harder to get done. By the way... we only got half way through this one.
- Buy a booster seat for S. Our largest current seat only goes up to 40lbs... If she is more than that, we'd be stuck. So we bought one, but it's currently in the box until we meet S and also see what things she came with. We're set for a seat for B. Thankfully!
I'm excited to have a few new kids in our home. I'm excited about the potential of a longer future with them. I'm nervous about have two so close in age. I'm nervous about parenting a four year old. I'm hoping I can get on the ball quickly with menu planning as I've really slacked off lately. I'm headed off to grade now... until next time...
