The Beginning

Welcome!  I've debated about starting a blog for quite a while.  Partially because I'm not a captivating writer like others, partially because I worry about starting something, then not sticking with it, and partially because I don't know what I would write about.

But I have started.

The main thing I have on my mind right now is what I just did... I just took the first of hopefully not too many pills with the end goal of getting pregnant.

Let me start at the beginning.  My husband and I started trying to conceive in December of 2008.  We wanted to start prior to then, but he was off work after quitting his previous employment due to back problems.  The end of November, he accepted a position as a PCA at a local hospital and once that cycle on birth control was over, I stopped and haven't look back since.

About 10 cycles into this process, I scheduled an appointment with my midwife for my annual exam (yeah, I know... not fun, but necessary).  During that time came the usual questions...
So are you on birth control?
Not anymore.
When did you stop?
Last December...
And your reason for stopping?
Well, we are trying to get pregnant...

Once my midwife came in, we began discussing options.  During those first months, I charted my temperature (read: took my temperature every morning for 10 months!) to see if I was ovulating.  Yep.  She checked over my charts and based on the temps and how they changed it looks like we hadn't had any early miscarriages (very thankful for this!) so it was on to testing.

Tim had a sperm analysis done as soon as possible, I had blood work done seven days after ovulation, then after the next cycle started, had a HSG performed (to check to see if my tubes were clear).  Everything came back fine.  Since often fertility is increased in the 2-4 months following and HSG we were hopefully we could just proceed with our current methods and have a miracle...

10 cycles and $1000 later after paying off the bills from the testing we are still here with an empty uterus...

So back to almost present day, halfway through last cycle, I was finally able to see a doctor, with the practice I am currently going to, who specializes in infertility.  His suggestion was as follows:
Try 3 cycles taking 100mg of Clomid
If no success
Try monitored cycles of clomid, trigger shots to induce ovulation and an IUI with washed sperm

So here I am, just having taken the first of the Clomid doses.  I heard about all sorts of different side effects of Clomid and so I was a bit nervous taking it this evening.  So far, I feel like I took two pills and that's about it... for a brief moment, I felt pressure behind my right eye and almost a little light headed, but I think that's all in my head... I mean, uh, I think I'm over analyzing things : )

We shall see.  We are praying that this might be the cycle we get a miracle.  Care to join us in this prayer?
