The Dreaded Questionnaire

Near the end of August, we found out we were assigned a licensing worker.
This means:
  • We passed the state checks [fingerprints to check for criminal record, check to be sure we haven't been officially investigated for abuse/neglect]
  • We have someone to advocate on our behalf as we pursue foster parenting
  • We have someone to approve our house/income/life for the homestudy
  • We are actually moving forward in the process!

The first thing our worker did was to send us a questionnaire for each of us to fill out

17 pages of questions...

The next thing I did was to call her up and see if I could get an electronic copy of it.  Thankfully she sent one to me.  That night, we left to go work at a camp for Labor Day weekend.  It's a 4.5 hour drive.  I sat in the passenger seat with the computer on my lap, typing in both of our questionnaires.

4.5 hours later, I was through page 6 of the 17.  Does that give you an idea of how long this would take?

Tonight I sat down and worked on it some more.
I think I'm about done... one month later...

So that's the progress in our process to become foster parents.

  1. Hi! You don't know me but I stumbled across your blog somehow. My husband and I recently adopted, so I feel your pain with the paperwork. It seems like there are mountains of questions. Good luck getting everything finished, and once you're fostering a little one (or two), you'll forget all about everything you had to do to GET there. :) It's totally worth it... I know you already knew all of that though. Just wanted to give you a little encouragement!
