The Zoo

We have a zoo near us, only 30 minutes away!  So we decided this year to get a family membership.  Honestly, if you were to go any more than twice, it would pay for it self!  And this way we don't have to stress about seeing it all in one day to get our money's worth.

With this first trip we took, we didn't focus on very much of it.  We first stopped at the children's area/petting zoo.

Watching from afar while we waited our turn to get some feed.

Papa showing X how to feed the goats

Then they went inside to actually pet the goats!  X called them "Sammy" apparently thinking they were like our Samson [dog] at home :)

Then it was time to come back out... but bonus - we found food others had dropped on the ground and took a few more minutes to feed them again!

We were going to see more of the children's area, but it was super busy as many area schools were having their zoo field trip day that same day.  So we met up with a friend and her 4 kids and headed to see Africa.

On the tram to Africa.  C was sound asleep!

The giraffes are always one of my favorite stops.

We bought some feed for them [although at $1 for one piece of romaine lettuce, I'm tempted to bring our own next time!!!] and then tried to have X feed them.

He liked it well enough until the big tongue came out!  After that he was pretty much done with trying to feed them!

But if you look in the bottom right corner of the picture... see that tongue?  There was a smaller giraffe that was just barely tall enough to try to get treats off of us.  We felt sorry for that little one and once X was don't trying to feed them, we gave the rest to that one.

The next stop was the monkeys.
We always are trying to get X to say new words, or to repeat words after us, so of course we were having him say "monkey".  He quickly picked up on that and started pointing everywhere saying "money!"  Sadly, there was no money laying about...

It was about this time that C woke up with a very dirty diaper.  After changing her in the wagon, she was very awake and very smiley!  So X got some freedom to run around while C had wiggle time.

We had so much fun walking through Africa, that we lost track of time.  I had to get to work that evening, and X needed a nap so sadly we didn't see any more of the park.  But that's the reason we bought the season pass.  Now we can go visit more of it, and not worry about the cost!

Before we left home, we packed a lunch and decided it would be better to eat it there rather than wait until we were home - cutting into nap time even more.

C was completely out again by this time, so she took a nap on the table.

Meanwhile, Papa made sandwiches.  Our lunch was quick, easy and delicious!  Although you may notice that he's making the sandwiches on a burp rag... in our haste to get to the zoo in the morning [or at least while there was still a little morning left in the day] we forgot to bring napkins, plates, etc.  But it was still delicious!

It was a good day at the park.  We are definitely looking forward to doing it again soon :)
