Today we found out we were losing a part of our family... our '99 Subaru Legacy Station Wagon.
Taken on our most recent long distance trip
Our Subaru Legacy Station Wagon, aka "Tim's car" took it's final drive on Sunday, April 24, 2011. While taking Tim to work, our Subaru began showing signs that it was nearing the end of it's life. It cough, sputtered, and had a generally gravelly sound all the while giving it's best while only running on two cylinders. It faithfully took it's final trip bringing Tim home from work until it came to rest in our driveway.
Tim's car came to life in 1999 and spent the first seven years of it's life with another family. During the year of 2007, our Subaru was adopted into our family, bringing with it the joy of driving a manual transmission, as well as all wheel drive and much more packing capacity. It joined our family and became good friends with our Honda Civic, aka "Laura's car" especially during the evenings parked together in the garage.
During it's time in our family, the Subaru ventured to such places as The Great Smokey Mountains, Camp Barakel, Ironwood (the UP), and many trips to Pontiac, MI to visit with relatives.
It was interesting learning more about our vehicle, from learning how to approximate our speed when the speedometer would stop working, to recognizing the awful noise the antenna would make when it tried to extend to recieve radio signal, and don't forget about needing to remove the correct fuse before leaving it for the night so the tail lights would turn off and not drain the battery! While the Subaru had many quirks near the end of it's life, it served us well.
The final resting place of Tim's car has yet to be determined. As a final tribute, it will be donating itself in exchange for financial assistance to help our family move on from here. I only hope we can find another vehicle that will serve us as well as Tim's car has. Thank-you for your time in our family and for taking us where we needed to go! We will miss you.
