So it's been a bit longer than I had planned when I wrote Part 1... and as a result, I've completely forgotten what else I was going to write.
So consider this the end of Part 2.
And now an update on how the semester is progressing [after a week and a day of teaching].
I have only had two classes of Trig so far. The second started much better than the first. And I felt prepared for all the material. However, more than half of it on Wednesday was still review, so not to exciting. My main goal is to incorporate other stuff in besides what the book offers. That way the students have more of a reason to come besides just because I give a "quiz" each class.
Over the week we've been separate they've had their first homework assignment. It was quite a few problems, but not too much time required. I will be collecting it tomorrow and looking over it. Still deciding how I want to grade it.
AutoCAD is going well... it's a bright and early 8 am class. Not what I'd prefer, but actually it works lovely into our schedule. I think I'd actually prefer this over a mid-day class. I have 15 students enrolled. Most seem to be good students. Although one needed me to sign a sheet saying how long he'd been there today [he apparently abused drugs and is in some sort of rehab/school thing]. Silly me thought that he'd be sticking around like he said, so even though it was the beginning of the class period, I signed it for him... and an hour and a half later... he was gone. Guess I learned my lesson on that one!
I have one student in there that was drafted for the Korean War. He is a wonderful gentleman and a lot of fun to talk to. I just hope he is able to catch on quickly. He's understandably struggling a bit with the the computer stuff. And I have a student from Africa. He's fun to talk with : ) I also have a student again from my days of teaching high school. Ironically enough, it was actually his aunt who set the ball in motion for me to leave the high school. And while I don't think she approached this very well, I am very happy for where I am now as a result of leaving there! I love the community college setting!
And that's enough rambling for now. Have a great day!
